Many of us work on parenting "naturaly" or what ever term you want to use to discribe rythem based mutually respectful parenting. We read, discuss, breath, stay present and love our littles with grace and focus. Yet what of the times when we are in a fog of snot, achs and pains? I know for us we lack the clarity to see things in the same light as our healthy selves.
In the vulnerability of illness we, my partner and I, tend to revert back to what was modeled to us. We are short, revert to consequences and punishment. Not a huge change with yelling but the tone changes in our voice, we threaten. Our ultimate consequence, the end of personal autonomy is tossed out as soon as non compliance or not instantly reacting occurs. It reminds me of why we live and parent the way we do.
Our goal isn't a well trained obedient human. We want a well trained mind yes, but one that is trained for critical thinking and can analyze a situation independently. I want my girls to DO the right thing for the right REASON. I want them to act out of compassion, thoughtfulness and respect. Not fear of punishment, authority, or consequence.
This is were the personal work comes in. How do I/ we remain consistent when I/we feel sick, short and tired? I need to work on remembering my goals even in the fog.
